This exceptionally well-written novel is all about suspense, thrill and drama, including the relationships between generations and what happens between long-standing friends.

The characters are sensitively portrayed, as is their recovery, and the hopeful ending is realistic.

Readers of domestic dramas will be enthralled. It is perfect for a long plane trip or a rainy weekend. Clicking on the below button will initiate the downloading process of After by Anna Todd.

As a woman, as a person, this makes me sick in so many levels. Especially due the fact that nowadays, most teens believe such behaviour is okay after reading so many books that romanticize manipulative, abusing bastards.

This definitely needs to stop, for once. And what about the mediocre writing? The fact that there's no plot whatsoever apart from an abusive relationship and make up sex?

Is this the literature we want? Is this the literature that will survive, the legacy we'll leave to future generations?

As a future editor, this disgusts me. It annoys me and it also saddens me, because I can't understand why things like this are being published.

You can still make money by selling quality books, but apparently quality doesn't matter anymore. And some readers do not care about it either, as it seems by now, which saddens me even more.

Puppybhai I spent wasted hours on this one review on the threads of comment, reading every single one, rolling my eyes, and laughing out loud at Evey and Ci I spent wasted hours on this one review on the threads of comment, reading every single one, rolling my eyes, and laughing out loud at Evey and Cillian replies both of you are bombs!

It's actually saddening how some of these people are defending this book and coming at you for expressing your thoughts. The way many of these people are telling you the same thing, again and again, is just so frustrating and laughable!

Truly loved it! I have to say I'm not disappointed! Seeing your review in the top three made me happy! The actual reality is Tessa is delusional and Hardin is an asshole.

But given that this trilogy nearly has one BILLION reads altogether, I thought to myself: this can't be that bad -- after all, it's literally the most popular unpublished trilogy on the internet right now.

I should give it a try. And I regret it. I'm never again judging a book by its popularity. I honestly have no idea how the movie rights for this were bought, much less how a Big Six publishing house like Simon I don't normally read fan fiction on Wattpad.

And let me tell you, I can name at least thirty stories that are based on the same idea but are written ten times better.

Yet somehow they didn't make Wattpad blow up as much as After did. They say that this is the new 50 shades of grey. I admit that I haven't read James' books but the situation does seem similar: 50 shades was initially a Twilight fan fiction, was it not?

And this 1D fanfic is ''the next big thing'' with bidders for the movie and the publishing rights. God forbid it ever became a best seller.

If After gets published with ''made popular by Wattpad'' on its front cover, I will be very disappointed because the last thing I want to see is fiction like this representing a community filled with brilliant authors.

This, however, was so poorly written that I'm having a hard time grasping how the editor is going to make it better. Not only that, but the plot itself lacks any depth whatsoever: at least some of the similar stories I've read actually carried a message.

This story does not. It is not based on love, it is based on lust. It does not portray an honest and evolving relationship.

Instead, it's centered around a boy with serious anger management issues and a lovestruck girl who barely knows him but will put up with anything. The majority of the chapters consist of him abusing her emotionally and then making it all better through make up sex.

It does not even follow a story line: it's chapter after chapter of the same thing. Just no. Absolutely no meaning. Absolutely no depth.

Absolutely no character development. Absolutely no plot development. Absolutely nothing. Perhaps after its publishing it will get better.

Maybe, just maybe, I'll actually bother to finish the trilogy. So that's an unlikely scenario. But until I see a more decent version, I'll be stuck here wondering how many of the people who made this story so popular are over 13 years of age.

Sorry for being harsh. But this story does not even deserve one star in my eyes. View all 57 comments. CW: abuse, sexual assault Say what you will, Anna Todd is right about one thing. There is a life before and there is a life after, and once you cross that line there is no going back.

The first thing that you have to understand about me is that I'm an awful little gremlin and I thrive when immersed in garbage.

I don't know why I am the way that I am, but catch me surveying my kingdom of trash upon a throne constructed from My Immortal, The Room and their ilk.

When I heard about After I more or less cackled and rubbed my grimy little hands together in glee. I expected to be bad, and it IS bad.

Everything about it is stilted, awkward and absurd. A select few of my favorite quotes, just to give you a taste of the glory: "You're thinking about me and have that feeling Don't you, Theresa?

It's always a good sign when your sexual partner refers to your vagina as "down there!! Mere writing mechanics aside, there's plenty to revel in.

There is no plot to speak of - instead, we lurch from scene to scene of the world's most unpleasant college students stewing in sexual tension, erupting to a screaming match, agreeing to never see each other again and then doing the same thing over again the next day.

As the book progresses, the conflict may also be solved with sex. The arguments will blur together. Time will no longer feel real. How did you get here?

What is your name? Is it Tessa?? Really, the only thing that kept me lucid was the power of my rage, because I am just as much of a feminist hag as I am a trash gremlin.

Don't even try to tell me that this isn't a sick, sick relationship, or that Hardin is not an abuser. Just don't, because I have receipts: He tosses [my notes] in the air and they fall to the ground in a scattered mess I scramble to pick them up before he steps on them, but that's only funny to him.

And then he started breaking things: all my mother's dishes, a glass cabinet, basically everything he could get his hands on. Don't you see that I don't want you here?

I don't want you to be here for me. Just because I messed around with you doesn't mean I want anything to do with you. Yet here you are, leaving your nice boyfriend- who can actually stand to be around you- to come here and try to help me.

That, Theresa, is the definition of pathetic. I push at his chest to stop him, but he doesn't budge I feel his tongue trying to pry its way in between my lips and his strong arms wrap around me, pulling me closer to him despite my attempts to push away.

It's no use; he is stronger than me. And if I do, I will ruin her! You fit in perfectly with their boring and prudish personalities. Why am I here again?

Oh, yeah, that's right: to be Hardin's punching bag. You deleted the messages! Extreme jealousy of other men and invasion of privacy.

Not at all rapey!!!! More extreme jealousy, possessiveness and irrational anger. It's also super dope that Tessa apologizes to him.

I forgot to take notes for this part, but once they move in together he essentially begins shouting at her when she asks him how his day was.

Irrational anger over everyday occurrences. That's to say nothing of the fact that their entire relationship is predicated on a giant and unspeakably cruel lie and manipulation, one that makes a joke and a spectacle of Tessa's sexuality and emotions.

What Hardin did to her is absolutely unforgivable, but there are like 4 more books in the series so I guarantee she's going to forgive him immediately.

If the point of this book was to show a deeply dysfunctional and unhealthy relationship AS SUCH, it would be one thing. I by no means think that authors should have to write only happy and healthy characters, and I believe that some of the greatest works ever written have been written about the darkest sides of humanity!

BUT I believe that when you venture into the realm of abuse, sexual violence and their like, you have a responsibility to portray them accurately, respectfully and in their very real destruction and devastation.

After does not do this. If anything, the message is that the more violent and turbulent a relationship is more intense, sexy, engrossing and passionate it is.

The ship has a popular hashtag, HESSA, and a scroll through will confirm that there are readers who are genuinely invested in this relationship at face value as a romance.

Tessa says that Hardin makes her feel more alive and vital, and that this is something that can never be taken away from her.

Of course Hardin has a sad sad backstory because trauma always causes its survivors to turn abusive, that's just how psychology works!!!!!

And, needless to say, he's gone to therapists before, but no one has helped him until Tessa this is almost a literal quote from the book.

It is never a woman's job to fix a man, especially when that man is hurting her! And YES, it is just fiction.

But one of the main reasons I read is that fiction does not exist in a vacuum - it has so much to say about the culture that it comes from, and everything we consume has the potential to shape how we see the world.

Some readers, like me, will read this for the sheer godawful spectacle, laugh and move on. Others will keep reading for the improbable happily ever after, knowing that fiction is not reality and enjoying for what it is.

But what about the countless readers who originally read this on Wattpad, a website predominantly used by young teenage girls? I scrolled through the comments there, and what I saw bothered me.

Some girls cooed when Hardin raised his hand at Tessa, only to lower it when he realized it was her. As for me, I was concerned by the fact that he would be willing to hit another girl, one who he's not currently sleeping with.

Girls commented that they hoped that their first time would be like it is between Hardin and Tessa. One 10 year old on Goodreads followed me when she saw me starting to read this book, and angrily unfriended me when I started talking critically about it.

Bottom line: I think it's a cheap excuse to say that fiction is separate from reality. Stories that promote rape myths cause increases in rape myth acceptance in their readers; stories that promote myths about abuse cause increases in acceptance of those myths just the same way.

I have empirical validation for this! I swear! If you're grounded enough to enjoy trash for what it is and separate it from your real world values then go for it!!!

I do it it too!! But I think it's important to think about the readers who haven't developed that level of critical analysis yet, and to think about the messages that these stories contribute to our broader societal discourse about sexism and violence.

We already let abusers off the hook, minimize abuse and blame the victim in reality - if you're going to do these things uncritically, without commentary or subversion, in fiction then I'm sorry, but I think you are part of the problem.

I'm gonna be done now. Time to retreat behind my unshakeable belief that My Opinion is Right. View all 68 comments. Bayan Alassaf You have no idea how much i love your review you put everything i had in mind into words!

Then I kept seeing people post pictures and reviews on it all talking about how they are now hooked on this series. I have never, ever hated two characters more than I hate Tessa and Hardin.

Tessa is: Whiny, stuck up, annoying, childish, pathetic, a H2ho, immature, irresponsible, vapid, shallow, and an overall turd.

Hardin is: cocky, annoying, bizarre, stage five clinger, gross, immature, actually a woman, hot tempered, mental, and zero dark crazy.

I have no doubt in my mind that Hardin is the girl in this relationship. Trust me when I say he is more pathetic than Tessa is. That is just the tip of the iceberg on the things I loathe about these two.

The relationship between the two is not only unhealthy but just downright awful. Their relationship is the furthest thing from romantic.

Not only did I hate them when they were separate but I hated them more when they were together. Their relationship is way out in the deep end of the crazy pool and it was so bad I wanted to drown just trying to endure it.

Hardin acts like a dick, ask Tessa for one more chance, Tessa says okay, they make up for a day, and then the cycle starts all over again.

After lacks any and all originality, depth, and personality. But, you want to know what the worst part is? The downright dirty worst part?!..

It was like watching a car crash in slow motion. View all 44 comments. Jan 07, April Aprilius Maximus rated it liked it Shelves: I want to start off by saying that this was a Harry Styles fanfiction on wattpad that received so many views that it got published.

But I watched an interview with the author and I thought it was so interesting. This story is realistic in that sense.

She sticks up for herself and is a feisty, independent character who knows what she wants, and she will tell him if he needs to get back in line and I really, really appreciated this.

Tessa really grows as a person and realises what she wants in life and I admire that. I grew to really care for these characters and want the best for them.

Just know that I understand where the haters are coming from, but Hardin is changing for the better and is trying so hard to be good for Tessa and Tessa is a badass who can hold her own and is trying to help Hardin get over his past and become a better person.

A few reasons this book could and probably will bomb 1 There's a damn petition for suspendannatodd, to prevent this broad from fuckin up Harry Styles reputation.

It was revealed that the author, Anna Todd is 25, married, and not going to any educational institute. Whereas a year ago she was 18, single, and a student of neuroscience at UCLA.

All of the other publishers are probably shaking their heads Harper Collins publisher: Razorblade publishing: Little Brown: What's funny about all of this Aside from the massive amount of views on Wattpad , is the fact that this book has thrived by year old readers, who probably had to hide under their covers and read this POS via cell phone.

Parents on release day: Kids: It's gotten so bad, in fact, that Harry Styles has blocked this author from Twitter.

Read at your own risk, I guess. But I sure as hell won't recommend it. An editor got a hold of that bad boy and tore it up. View all 26 comments.

You couldn't be bothered to make it an entirely different name from Harry? Unless… could this be love? I think I just wet myself laughing.

Jan 01, Angela rated it liked it.

And yea, it is a POS. While reading through the first chapter I was mentally editing it in my brain. Run on sentences, lack of semicolons, past tense bullshit.

And knowing that it was bought for six figures by o Another fanfiction P2P. A few reasons this book could and probably will bomb 1 There's a damn petition for suspendannatodd, to prevent this broad from fuckin up Harry Styles reputation.

Todd's writing was initially inspired by the music and fandom of One Direction , and the singer Harry Styles is a model for the protagonist in her After series, under the name Hardin Scott.

Todd wrote three books in the After series on Wattpad. The series has sometimes been compared to the Fifty Shades trilogy as both series had their start as fan fiction.

In Todd announced that she would be publishing Before , a prequel novel that tells the events of After from the perspective of Hardin Scott.

The film , based on her first book, was eventually released by Aviron Pictures on April 12, Josephine Langford portrays Tessa, the female protagonist, and Hero Fiennes Tiffin portrays Hardin, the male protagonist.

Zugegebenermassen ist es sehr kitschig mit dem Badboy und dem Goodgirl und das ständige hin Und er ist sexy, gutaussehend und zieht Tessa magisch an. Für sich allein.
